It seems as though Westmoreland County was made for raising a family. The County possesses an excellent array of public schools, private schools and several noteworthy colleges and universities. Westmoreland County has schools located in every part of the region. In addition to the seventeen school districts that operate in the area, there are nearly fifty private/non-public schools, more preschool and daycare facilities than can be easily counted, and a number of after school programs.
Public libraries provide residents with easy access to books, learning resources, and reference materials. Books on tape, foreign language materials, video tapes, music CDs, and more can also be found in area libraries. Library memberships are free to county residents and host numerous programs for adults and children.
The county’s libraries are keeping up with technology by providing computer stations with internet access, online catalogs, downloadable audio books and music, and Reference USA, an online database which can search for phone numbers and addresses for any business across the United States. Most of the county’s libraries are linked to the Westmoreland Library Network, which provides users with a combined resource to access information from all area libraries. Users may search the combined database for specific items and have their local library borrow the items through an interlibrary loan.
